Jorge Hidalgo is Professor of Critical Care and Head of the Division of Critical Care at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City, Belize. A native of Guatelama, Dr Hidalgo graduated with a Degree in Medicine from the Centro Universitario de Occidente in Quetzaltenango,Guatemala before completing his residency in Internal Medicine at the Roosevelt University Hospital at the San Carlos de Guatemala University and then his Critical Care and Intensive Care training at UNICAR, Guatemala. Professor Hidalgo has received additional qualifications in Aeronautical Medicine and Trauma Systems and Mass Casualty Management. In 2002 Dr. Hidalgo was invited to establish critical care medicine in the State of Belize and has subsequently used his expertise and regional influence to found several societies including the Belize Society of Critical Care, the Belize Society of Internal Medicine and COCECATI (Central America and the Caribbean Consortium of Intensive Care). Dr. Hidalgo was awarded with the highest recognition the American College of Physician offers to his members in 2012: “Master of the American College of Physician". In 2016, he also was awarded with the Master of the American College of Critical Care, been the first Latin American Intensivist to got this prestigious recognition. Dr. Hidalgo is a well-known and respected speaker locally and internationally and a regular contributor to chapters and books on critical care medicine. He is Founder and Associate Editor of the Belize Journal of Medicine.
