Dr. Sujith V Cherian MD, FCCP, DAABIP

Dr. Cherian is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine, in the divisions of Critical Care, Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine at the University of Texas Health-McGovern Medical School, Houston. He is associate director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit and is the director of Quality Improvement of the division at the Lyndon B Johnson Hospital, Houston, Texas. He also serves as the director of Interventional Pulmonology and Pleural Diseases at the Lyndon B Johnson Hospital. Dr. Cherian’s areas of interest within Pulmonary medicine includes rare lung diseases, interventional pulmonology and pleural diseases while within critical care- his main areas of focus have been ARDS and mechanical ventilation. He serves on the editorial board in leading respiratory journals including CHEST and has been section editor for Occupational and Environmental Lung Diseases in Current Pulmonology Reports since 2019. Dr. Cherian has published more than 75 peer reviewed manuscripts, 10 book chapters and recently co-edited a book- “Rare Lung Diseases: A Comprehensive Clinical Guide to Diagnosis and Management”, published by CRC Press, Taylor and Francis Group in 2023. He is the recipient of numerous teaching awards and was inducted into the Academy of Master Educators at the University of Texas Health-McGovern Medical School. Furthermore, he received the “Distinguished CHEST Educator Award” 2 years in a row from the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP). Dr. Cherian is an elected fellow of the ACCP and holds several leadership positions within the organization.
