He earned his medical degree from Ain Shams University College of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt. He practiced Medicine in Egypt for a few years before immigrating to the USA. He then completed a Neurology residency at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, and a postdoctoral clinical fellowship in Neurocritical care at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.
Dr Abdelhak is American board-certified in Vascular Neurology, Neurocritical care, and Neurology and Psychiatry. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the Neurocritical Care, the American Heart Association, the American Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the American Academy of Neurology.
Dr Abdelhak main areas of interest is intracranial hemorrhage, brain death, coma, and traumatic brain injury. He is actively involved in medical education. He is coauthor of several peer-reviewed publications and is a frequent invited speaker on Neurocritical care topics at local, national, and international scientific meetings.
He is also the vice president of the International PanArab Critical Care Medicine Society and attends its meetings for past 12 years in Dubai UAE
