Laurent Brochard is Professor of Medicine and Interdepartmental Division Director of Critical Care Medicine, University of Toronto. He holds the Keenan Chair in Critical Care and Respiratory Failure, Department of Critical Care at St. Michael’s Hospital.
He did his residency training in Paris, France. He has been Medical School Vice Dean, Paris University (1995-2003) and head of the Hospital Medical Council, (2003–2010). He became Head of the Geneva University Hospital ICU, Switzerland, (2010-2013) and moved to Toronto.
He was Editor-in-Chief of Intensive Care Medicine (2001–2007) and is Deputy Editor of American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. He created a research network on mechanical ventilation (REVA) and leads an international group on applied respiratory physiology (PLUG).
He mentored more than 18 PhD, many being leaders in Critical Care. He published over > 520 peer-reviewed publications, including 125 articles over the past 5 years (H-index 92 in Scopus).
