Ibn Sina Hospital Neuro ICU
Ibn Sina ICU is the backbone of the neurosurgery department. It is the main center in Kuwait for management of subarachnoid haemorrhage and intracranial aneurysms. Also, it is currently the main center for thrombectomy of stroke patients. It all began more than 40 years ago, a modest start of a new era of care. On 1981, Ibn Sina ICU was established, starting with 6 beds, shared with the pediatric surgery department, 3 beds each. It was started at a small area adjacent to the main operative theater. A few years later, the ICU moved to its current location with a bed capacity of 13 beds, also shared with pediatric surgery department. 7 of those beds were for the neurosurgery patients, with 3 isolation rooms. On 2016, the ICU was no longer shared with the pediatric patients and Ibn Sina ICU is currently for adult patients only with bed capacity of 9 beds. From that time on, there is a dedicated pediatric ICU which is covered by neonatologists and pediatricians, and it deals with the complex pediatric patients, both preoperative and postoperative.
